Nine

The Couple

The train sat out of service for ten minutes at Brixton station. The carriage strip lights were turned off, and the driver powered the train down. Soon after the driver walked along the platform looking in through the windows of each carriage, conducting his final checks. But he couldn't see her brazenly staring right back at him.

Jassassah had a busy morning, and she wondered whether seeing Azrael tail Gwendolyn and her minder was due to her getting the suicide that she so desperately wanted. Suicides scored well in hell, if she increased her scores, she might be given more powers and put into a higher league, the thought made her rub her hands together in glee. Spreading evil was a competition, even she wouldn't lie about that.

She studied the map, where should she go next?

From Brixton, she could travel one stop to Stockwell and change onto the Northern Line. It appealed to her because if she stayed on that line, it would take her through banker land, and well, who doesn't love causing havoc in the lives of a rich banker. Greed was an easy tool to utilize, and it was only the Professor that had an inkling for it. London used to be filled with the openly greedy, but now it just seemed like the lustful. Greed was a great sin, and she knew exactly where she might find a few greedy people to rack up some more points. Her instinct told her it was the right decision, after all, the color of the Northern Line was black just like her heart.

Soon enough another driver came, and the train was put back into service. Doors opened, and people hurried in and claimed seats. With them the office worker couple who held hands as they entered and went to stand in the most private corner away from everyone else and all the empty seats.

They caught the demon's attention straight away, it was mainly as she could smell the infidelity on them as a rancid perfume they both wore. They leaned into each other, kissed and cuddled, both wearing non-matching wedding rings. The demon was delighted to see them, she could see the details that others could never guess. She knew straight away that the couple were married, but not to each other.

Just like teenagers they were lovers in their own world, kissing in the middle of the day, stolen kisses, as they pretended that no one else was around them.

As she watched them, Jassassah decided that they were a gift to her. She knew there was little about deviance she could teach them. The demon wanted to observe as they had a dynamic about them. A sort of way of demonstrating they were comfortable with each other, but it was only at a surface level. It was interesting to watch, and she needed to get closer to them to tune into their thoughts. The sound of the woman's thoughts entered her ears first.
